Trauma counseling · Louisville, KY and online

A trauma therapist in Louisville who lets you set the pace

Trauma can leave you on edge, stuck, or disconnected from yourself long after it happened. Trauma counseling helps you feel safe in your own life again.

You might be here because

  • Something from the past still feels present, in your body or your reactions.
  • You startle easily, or you're always on guard.
  • You avoid places, people, or reminders.
  • You feel numb or disconnected from yourself.
  • Hard experiences piled up over years, and you're tired of carrying them.
  • Part of you wants to heal, and part of you would rather not go near it.

It doesn't have to be one big event

Trauma isn't only a single dramatic event. A difficult childhood, a painful relationship, or many smaller hard experiences add up too. If your body is still reacting as though something isn't safe, that's reason enough to get support.

More than one path to healing

There's no single right way to heal from trauma, so our counselors work in different ways:

  • EMDR helps painful memories lose their emotional charge, without describing everything in detail. About EMDR
  • Internal family systems (IFS) helps you understand the parts of you still protecting against what happened, with compassion instead of force.
  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) helps you relate differently to painful memories and feelings so they stop running your life.
  • Psychodynamic, trauma-focused counseling looks at how what happened still shapes your relationships and reactions today.

Faith at the center, never forced

If you want faith to be part of your healing, including hard questions about safety, trust, and where God was in what happened, your counselor will bring it in. If not, that's entirely your call.

You stay in control

Before any deep work begins, your counselor helps you build safety and steadiness: tools to calm your body and stay grounded. You set the pace, and you can pause at any time. The goal is healing, never re-living the trauma.

Your first session

Your first session focuses on getting to know you and building safety, not on the trauma itself. You won't be asked to go into detail before you're ready. Sessions are in our Middletown office or online.

Common questions

Do I have to describe my trauma in detail?

No, not to reach out or to begin.

Is trauma counseling only for major, single events?

No. Repeated or long-term hard experiences are just as real, and just as treatable.

How do I know which approach is right for me?

You don't have to know. Tell us what's going on, and we'll suggest a counselor and a way to start.

How do I know if it's trauma or just a bad memory?

If a past event still shapes how you react to stress, relationships, or your own body today, it's worth exploring.

Can I meet online?

Yes, if you're in Kentucky, including EMDR with Staci.

Can trauma counseling include faith?

Yes, if you want it.
